In March 2026, INNO2MARE’s team completed a series of structured workshops with all three pilot project teams. The goal: take an honest look at where each technology stands and map out what it will take to reach real-world deployment.
Three Pilots, One Framework
The workshops covered all three INNO2MARE pilots.
Each technology is at a different stage of development, so the sessions used a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) assessment framework developed specifically within this project. Think of TRL as a maturity ladder from early prototype to market-ready product. Rather than applying the same standard to everyone, the framework adapts to where each pilot actually is, asking the right questions at the right stage.
More Than Just Technology
What made these workshops distinctive was the deliberate focus on commercial readiness alongside technical maturity. Engineers naturally focus on making things work but scale-up requires more: Who are the first customers? What does deployment actually cost? What’s the business model? These questions were worked through with the development teams during our workshops.
Topics ranged from market sizing and pricing strategies to regulatory hurdles and deployment constraints. For each pilot, the team identified concrete next steps, gaps, and potentials not just technically, but commercially.
What’s Next?
The workshop findings will feed into the project’s action plan for pilot scale-up, due this spring. But the work doesn’t stop there, the assessment frameworks will continue to evolve alongside the pilots through to the end of the project, with the goal of producing tools that are reusable well beyond INNO2MARE and well beyond the maritime sector.
