INNO2MARE HR Forum Explored Talent Attraction and Retention Challenges in a Changing Workforce

Jun 19, 2026 | Events

On 18 June 2026, the INNO2MARE project successfully organized the HR Forum titled “Talent Attraction and Retention” at the Gradska knjižnica Rijeka, bringing together employers, HR professionals, industry representatives, students, and experts to discuss one of the most pressing challenges facing organizations today: attracting and retaining talented employees.

The event focused on the changing expectations of the workforce and the strategies organizations can implement to create attractive, supportive, and sustainable working environments.

The forum opened with an inspiring lecture, “A Generation That Chooses Differently,” delivered by Prof. Marta Žuvić, PhD, who highlighted key shifts in employee expectations, particularly among younger generations entering the labor market. Her presentation emphasized the growing importance of meaningful work, professional development opportunities, flexibility, and organizational values in career decision-making.

The lecture was followed by a panel discussion featuring distinguished speakers from industry and academia:

  • Nikolina Rebić, Business Development Director, AITAC
  • Jelena Novačić, Head of People & Culture, Lürssen Design Center Kvarner
  • Marija Sarić, People Operations Senior Advisor, Maersk
  • Loren Horvat, student at the Faculty of Maritime Studies, University of Rijeka

The panelists shared valuable insights and practical experiences related to talent attraction, employee engagement, organizational culture, workplace flexibility, and long-term retention strategies. A recurring message throughout the discussion was that while competitive compensation remains important, employees increasingly value positive work environments, opportunities for personal and professional growth, purpose-driven work, and strong organizational cultures.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of soft skills, motivation, integrity, and adaptability, which employers increasingly recognize as key factors for long-term success and organizational resilience.

The forum provided participants with an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences, learn from different perspectives, and establish new professional connections across sectors.

Organized within the framework of the INNO2MARE project, the event contributed to strengthening cooperation among stakeholders from Croatia, Slovenia, and Belgium, supporting the digital and green transition of maritime industries through knowledge sharing, innovation, and human capital development.

We would like to thank all speakers, participants, and partners for their valuable contributions and for making the event a success.
