The European Researchers’ Night (ERN) is the largest science outreach event in Europe, which is running in 25 countries in 2024. Among them is Croatia, and on 27th September ERN was organized in Rijeka by the University of Rijeka. More than 3.000 visitors browsed through more than 30 scientific stations.
One of them was a station held by the Faculty of Maritime Studies Rijeka, where Pilot Study 1 – Improved fire evacuation VR model of a ship engine room, of the INNO2MARE project was presented. Visitors had a chance to immerse themselves in the virtual reality (VR) of the ship’s engine room, exploring different features of the engine, trying to set off the fire on the engine and finding their way outside of the engine room. The event lasted from 5 pm to 10 pm and the VR station was crowded all the time with youngsters wanting to explore the inside of the ship.
