Building on the focus of our project team, and especially the INNO2MARE Gender and Equal Opportunities Committee, on continuously exploring the ongoing challenges and advancements in promoting gender diversity in maritime careers, our colleague Lea Perinić from the University of Rijeka participated in an interview on the topic “Public Awareness of Policies Advocating the Employment of Women in Green/Deep Technologies and STEM.” In doing so, she explored cross-sector synergies within this issue by comparing the situation in green/deep technologies, STEM fields, and the maritime sector.

The interview was conducted within the framework of the EU project Women4AGreenEU – Empowering Women in Green Technologies, and addressed the following topics: awareness of policies promoting gender equality in the mentioned sectors, opportunities and challenges in women’s employment, support mechanisms and the advancement of women’s status, as well as the identification of conclusions and further recommendations.

The general objective of the Women4AGreenEU project is to increase the participation and success of women in the green technology sector through a comprehensive multi-level strategy that integrates advocacy, policy experimentation, and educational empowerment, directly supporting the European green policy agenda, including the Social Rights Action Plan, the Green Deal Industrial Plan, the Pact for Skills, and the Osnabrück Declaration.

This interview also served as an opportunity to present the activities of the INNO2MARE Gender and Equal Opportunities Committee, i.e., the efforts made by I2M partners in collecting gender-disaggregated data in project activities, providing input for equal opportunities and effective gender mainstreaming within the project, and fostering gender balance in general – both throughout the project and, as shown in this example, by extending these practices to other projects and initiatives.
